In a study carried out at University College London, it was seen that the cerebellum can predict sensations when your own movement causes them but not when somebody else does. When you try to tickle yourself, the cerebellum predicts the sensation and this prediction is used to cancel the response of other brain areas to the tickle.
The study shows that two parts of the brain is responsible for the process of tickling, namely the somatosensory cortex, which is responsible for recognizing touch, and the other being anterior cingulate cortex, which processes pleasure.
