The Big Dipper is a large asterism consisting of seven bright stars of the constellation Ursa Major. One of them, Megrez, is of third magnitude and the rest are of second magnitude. Four of the stars make a 'bowl' or 'body', while the remaining three define a 'handle' or 'head'. 
This asterism is known by different names in different parts of the world, like 'Big Dipper' in USA and Canada, 'Plough' in UK and Ireland and 'Saptarashi' in Indian astronomy.
